My own father not mentioned

It was strange to be holding onto you

through the winding-ending streets of

Edgartown while your Harley Davidson

spoke loud enough that you had to yell

over your shoulder the details of your

father's last visit. I didn't know you

but it wasn't strange to me that you

were thinking about your father

I was thinking about my own father-

Revere, how he must have swam

from the beach to the jetty

a thousand times-that for years

he must have smelled of the ocean.
